Wednesday is the End of the Semester The aeries grading window is open!   It closes next  Thursday, 12/21/17, at 3pm. Department Chair Meeting with Admin Please share your issues, questions and ideas with your Department Chair. Site Admin and Department Chairs will meet this Tuesday after school. School Site Council Meeting this Wednesday At this Wednesday's School Site Council, we will revise our school's Safety Plan, motion to approve funding for the SSICA app that allows staff to assign points for positive behavior, and continue to look at ways to address Math Interventions. PBIS Team Meeting This Thursday As was announced, we have had some changes to who is exactly on the PBIS team. The team still consists of Clement Lau, Alice Currie, Maurice Mouton, Nicole Williams, David Knott and Admin. Any certificated staff interested in joining, please let Admin know, or simply come by! Title 1 Program Updates: Literacy Coaching with Sara Veloz - Monday, December 4th Sara will be here to do follow up coaching with "New" Teachers and Department Chairs this week. Sara will "roll" through the schedule with a roving sub, make a visit to observe and then leave the sub with the class for the teacher and Sara to debrief. Here is the schedule for her coaching visits throughout the year. Food Bank of Contra Costa & Solano Counties at Crystal The Food Bank was here Friday to help all families in our area of the district with free fresh fruit and vegetables. The truck pulled up and gave away enough food to feed 70 families. Thanks to our Community Liasion, David Knott, this program will continue throughout the school year on the 1st and 3rd Fridays of every month from 4pm to 5pm. I am very thankful to be on the staff at Crystal Middle School! The employees that work here are the most resilient and hardest working anywhere. Last week together, I was very thankful for everyone's flexibility, resiliency and professionalism with so many professional developments going on. We did a great job moving our school forward! For those participating in the Springboard/ELA Training with Sara Veloz, she will be back for "coaching days" on December 4th (for new teachers & dept. chairs) and on December 19th for grade 6 & 7 ELA teachers. Clarifying Attendance at Staff Meetings, Department Meetings Teachers, your time is extremely valuable and so is the time that is required of you for monthly staff meetings. To clarify, CMS teachers should attend 2 meetings each month - the monthly staff meeting (usually the first Tuesday of each month) and the monthly department meeting (usually the 3rd Tuesday of each month). Both of these meetings take place after school for an hour, and meet the obligation. ** Grade 6 teachers should select their CORE department meeting relative to their block schedule. To support the work of each department, administrative responsibilities have been adjusted to support each department. Department Chairs will share with each administrator the agenda, attendance and minutes from each department meeting. To help you prepare for the return of school activities at Crystal, here is some FAQ for Monday (same information emailed on Friday, 10/13): Will there be after school activities for students when we reopen? Yes, most activities will resume as normal. The plan now is for lunch/recess/PE/sports practices to be inside for Monday until further notice. After-school sports scheduled for Monday will be given a “go/no-go” by noon. The district will continue to monitor the air quality and if it changes, will message everyone with updates.
