Title 1 Program Updates: Literacy Coaching with Sara Veloz - Monday, December 4th
Sara will be here to do follow up coaching with "New" Teachers and Department Chairs this week. Sara will "roll" through the schedule with a roving sub, make a visit to observe and then leave the sub with the class for the teacher and Sara to debrief. Here is the schedule for her coaching visits throughout the year.Food Bank of Contra Costa & Solano Counties at Crystal
The Food Bank was here Friday to help all families in our area of the district with free fresh fruit and vegetables. The truck pulled up and gave away enough food to feed 70 families. Thanks to our Community Liasion, David Knott, this program will continue throughout the school year on the 1st and 3rd Fridays of every month from 4pm to 5pm. Please see our calendar on our school's website. It's been updated to show community events like this. Thank you Dave and Tara for all you have done to get this program going!!
Learning Walk Data - Was ELD Integrated in to the Lesson?
Ideas to Help Get ELD Integrated in to Every Lesson
In this American Educator article, William Saunders and David Marcelletti (The Talking Teaching Network) and Claude Goldenberg (Stanford University) synthesize conclusions from six major research projects on teaching English to ELs.
What should be taught during ELD instruction?
- Vocabulary, syntax, morphology, functions, and conventions.
- Correct academic as well as conversational language.
- Reading and writing, but with an emphasis on listening and speaking.
- Meaning and communication should be integrated to support explicit teaching of language.
How should English language development be taught?
- With specific language objectives in mind.
- Maximizing the use of English, with the home language used strategically.
- With interactive activities among students, carefully planned and carried out.
- With corrective feedback to students on form.
