Reflections From Working As A Sub
To provide one more sub for the department chair learning walks, I "subbed" for the vacancy all day in H101 for the Math 7 Co Teach. Little did I know that it would be a very insightful experience! Some reflections:
  • The Open Up/Illustrative Math curriculum is very rigorous for both teaching and learning.
  • Open Up challenges students to think through productive struggle.
  • For teachers, orchestrating those opportunities requires deep content knowledge and strong understanding of the curriculum.
  • The most success I had with Open Up was when my co teacher and I relied on each other’s strengths.
  • Coteaching Rocks! It's a really cool model for supporting students and the brief moments of reflection Krystal and I shared were really helpful for improving the next lesson’s delivery.
  • Unlike elementary, the immediate chance to teach the same lesson consecutively throughout the day allows for small improvements each period.
  • It was definitely surprising to see how many students at our school don't know their basic multiplication and division facts.
  • As principal, I'm really focused on what we can do about that as a school!

Welcome Sean Viri!
Sean Viri has completed the hiring and credentialing process with HR. He is now the general education teacher of record in H101. Welcome Sean!! We're glad you're an official member of our staff.

CMS Student of the Month Postcards
The office will use the spreadsheet to complete the congratulatory postcard. The office will also print certificates. This week, we will distribute Student of the Month certificates and make announcements at the end of the day.
  • Tuesday - PE and SPED
  • Wednesday - 6th Grade and Office
  • Thursday - Math and English
  • Friday - History and Science

The certificates in teacher's boxes should be ceremoniously given to the student on the same day as they are announced.
Staff - Please Note! If you would like to recognize a student for something special beyond Student of the Month, there are plenty of more postcards. See Kiana for the postcard!
