Week of August 27th to 31

Armijo High School Tragedy
Many of you following the story in the media would have seen images of our former students and siblings of current students impacted by the tragedy at Armijo on Friday. Staff, should you detect a student needs emotional support due to this tragedy, please send the student(s) to the office right away with a pass and send an email to Nicole Williams & Marielle Mayorga (with a cc to admin) to complete the referral. We will monitor this to see if additional support from the district is necessary.

  • Lunch Assignments for Friday, 8/31:

Students will follow their 3rd Period Teacher's Lunch Schedule. 3rd Period Teachers: Please write on your board what lunch you have!

To help your students embrace the MAP Assessments as our OPPORTUNITY to feel great about what we do for students every day:
  1. Data folders for your 4th period students will be shared with you. The data includes their grade level's CAASPP scores from the last 2 years and their individual MAP scores from last year.
  2. Compare their performance to this chart:
  3. Pick Strategies to encourage your students, such as
    • Conferencing with them to review their individual data
    • Set goals for performance on the test
    • Remind them that Cougar Cards are provided to students that demonstrate:
      • Effort on the MAP
      • Focus on the MAP,
      • Ample time on MAP
  • PBIS Rewards Points for Students Taking the MAP:
    • Your PBIS Rewards account should be sync'd by the time the Test Administration is over. Please record either directly or by making a note on your 4th period roster which students have earned points during the test. Rewards Points and Cougar Cards are of equal value; however at this time, only Cougar Cards are redeemable at the Cougar Store. Like Class Dojo, PBIS Rewards can be entered on a student's account in a variety of ways. See this overview to get started: Getting Started with PBIS Rewards. PBIS Rewards for other positive behaviors will not start until our PBIS Tier 1 Team gives direction to go ahead.
PBIS Tier 1 Lessons: Teaching Schoolwide Expectations
Discipline comes after we have taught the expected behavior. Please continue with our Tier 1 PBIS Team lessons... This week's lesson on creative expressions can be found here: Week 3 PBIS
When you have created your Creative Expression with your class, please take a photo, email it to Jay Dowd, include a caption, and it will get posted to our official social media/communication channels!

Ensuring You Know How to Administer the Test to Your Students and Attend a Training Session (Last week's blog's statement about the 2nd required meeting of the month has been revised.) Here is what we are going to do:
  • Departments will meet together independent of each other. This means we will not all join in the library as previously stated. 6th grade teachers and Special Ed teachers should go with their respective academic department. FA should meet as their own department. Please see admin if you have any questions.
  • In order to receive training on the MAP Test administration, teachers must review MAP Test Administration resources from page 16 in our Faculty Handbook . In addition, admin is offering training and support in the Library the morning of Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday to go over test administration from 8 to 8:45.
30 Minute Evaluation Training on Tuesday, 8/28 from 4:15 to 4:45.
Everyone to attend was sent the same notice to attend. Katie Molina and Jay Dowd will provide the training.

DEADLINE REMINDER:
Teachers, you must have your Classroom Management Plans & Substitute Lesson Plans by September 4th. There are NO EXCEPTIONS to this deadline. See Page 60 in our Faculty Handbook for guidance & contact admin if you have questions or need assistance.
