Improving Attendance and Decreasing Period Tardies
Our PBIS SMART Goal for December was to reduce the # of students exceeding 10 period tardies for 30 days of school beginning November 5th (as compared to the previous 30 days). Here is the breakdown that shows we did not quite meet our goal:

Students w/ 10+ Tardies
Days
Rate
October
115
22 days
5.23
Nov 5 - Dec 19
146
26 days
5.61

Tardies continue to be a “red flag” that cause classroom disruptions and missed instructional time.

What We Can All Do to Prevent Tardies:
Give students PBIS Cougar Credit points for being on time to each class and “Ready for Success”. Let's get our point totals back to where they were in Sept and Oct.

Tardiness, like all behaviors, highlights the fact that what we say isn’t as important as what we model. Monitors, staff, admin, and teachers need to model how important it is to get to class on time.

Our PBIS SMART Goal for January:
By January 30th, reduce the number of students with 10 or more tardies to under 100 students (not counting 1st period).

Teaching to help reach our goal:

Recognition to help reach our goal:
  • Offer an assembly for good attendance/other rewards for being on time and walking with a purpose. Announce perfect attendance for a week/two weeks/etc.

Corrective consequences to help reach our goal:
  • Every single day, admin and Sue is running a lunch detention list for any student with 3 or more tardies for a day.

Next Steps to help achieve our goal:
  • Tardy Sweeps
  • Rewards for perfect weekly attendance/tardies.
  • Music during passing period? Warning bell?

Winter MAP Test Starts Next Week. Please Note:
  • The window is from January 13th to January 16th (Make Ups Start January 21st)
  • Same as in the Fall, we will start the day with 4th period. New this time will be that on B Days (Tu & Th), the testing period will end at 10:59 am.
  • Please review the NWEA/MAP Handbook if you have any questions about test administration.
  • Like last year, we will offer incentives for students that show growth. Friday, January 24th.
  • A dialer to remind students and families the importance to remember their Chromebook will go out repeatedly.
  • More MAP info to be discussed at the Faculty Meeting.
