This Week is the Great Kindness Challenge Addressing Period Tardies: Our January SMART Goal: By January 30th, reduce the number of students with 10 or more tardies to under 100 students (not counting 1st period) Month Students with 10 or More Tardies January 27 (as of 1/21/20) December 92 November  54 October 115 As you can see, we are on track to meet our SMART goal…. More good news in January. Our referrals are down... Curiously, our Cougar Credit points given to students are down as well... The kids are responding with better behavior. We just need to keep up the positive praise! If we continue to promote positive behavior (giving points), we can assume that there will be fewer referrals and fewer tardies!! Let’s not leave our students hanging. Looking deeper, there is still more work to be done. Do you see the achievement gap in this data?? When one group is over-represented with a higher discipline rate t...

Looking at the CMS’ Dashboard CMS Dept. Chairs looked at our 2019 California Dashboard results. Reflective questions were asked and discussed: What are our strengths/highlights? What are our areas of growth/focus and what might be contributing to this? What would parents of SPED, African American and SES students ask/want to know/say? What are the ways we can address our areas of growth? The summarized responses are in the hyperlinked graphic below. You can also view the published data on the 2019 CMS Data Dashboard . Mark 3 Grading Breakdown: Here is a breakdown of our grades, by department, for Mark 1, Mark 2 and the end of the first semester (Mark 3). Teachers, as you look at the data, please reflect on the first semester’s grades in your class and consider asking the same questions from our Dashboard break down above: What are my strengths/highlights? What are my areas of growth/focus and what might be contributing to this? What would my parents of SPE...

Improving Attendance and Decreasing Period Tardies Our PBIS SMART Goal for December was to reduce the # of students exceeding 10 period tardies for 30 days of school beginning November 5th (as compared to the previous 30 days). Here is the breakdown that shows we did not quite meet our goal: Students w/ 10+ Tardies Days Rate October 115 22 days 5.23 Nov 5 - Dec 19 146 26 days 5.61 Tardies continue to be a “red flag” that cause classroom disruptions and missed instructional time. What We Can All Do to Prevent Tardies: Give students PBIS Cougar Credit points for being on time to each class and “Ready for Success”. Let's get our point totals back to where they were in Sept and Oct. Tardiness, like all behaviors, highlights the fact that what we say isn’t as important as what we model. Monitors, staff, admin, and teachers need to model how important it is to get to class on time.  Our PBIS SMART Goal for January...
