Welcome Line!
Suisun City Officials, District Admin and our Superintendent have all been invited to join the traditional welcome line to greet students on the first day. We got Pom Poms. Anyone have any signs to wave!?

Student Schedules
If a student comes to your class on Monday who is not on your roster, please send them to the office to get an updated schedule (some passed out at Orientation have changed). Thanks!

Warm Body Counts
Admin will visit every classroom during 2nd period for the first 15 days to get a physical count of students attending school.

Classroom Displays
The displays look great and send a clear message of what is expected! Thanks to all that have them up already!
Week 1 3 B’s Expectations Slides: Please make a copy and feel free to use in your own classroom to teach the school-wide expectation posters!

Textbooks and Chromebook Distribution
Thank you to everyone that has displayed the Williams Posters in your classrooms.
Ms. Delgado has developed a schedule for English classes to pick up books, consumables, Chromebooks and chargers in the library. These will be checked out in Destiny. If students move classes, they are responsible for keeping their materials with them.

IEP’s
SPED Dept. Chair Ed Fee has sent an email to all teachers directing them to a Google folder with all the students on their roster who have an IEP. In this folder, teachers will find the IEP at a Glance of students on their roster. Teachers are expected to know the goals, accommodations and services for each student with an IEP. Please note who the case manager is for the student by looking at the document and contact them if you have any questions about the student’s IEP.

Welcome Assemblies Next Week
Formerly known as  “discipline assembly” and as discussed at our staff meeting, the 3 Be’s and posters will be taught. Also to be discussed with students will be:

  • Tardy Sweeps
  • Consequences
  • Procedures
  • Behavior Poster Matrix

Welcome assemblies will be presented to every PE class throughout the day on Tuesday, September 6th.

Attendance Codes and Tardy “Sweeps”
Teachers at Crystal will have new selections in Aeries for attendance. Beginning with the first day of school, Aeries will have two new additions for you when you take attendance.  As you take a timely accurate attendance, please note these four options:

  • A - Student is absent from your class
  • T - Student arrives tardy to your class following the bell.
  • O - Student arrives over 30 minutes late to class
  • L - Student leaves your class and does not return (without a pass)

Accurate recording of attendance will produce actionable data to address chronic tardiness throughout the school day. Again, O and L are new additions to our attendance selections, but they are vital as we track student attendance.  If you mark O or L by accident, you will need to contact the attendance clerk, Ms. Sue, at susanao@fsusd.org

Addressing tardiness throughout the school day:
Starting week 3, the office will run reports on who has been tardy to class, generate a referral, and admin will assign consequences to students that are tardy. Please welcome students into your class if they are tardy or without a pass and accurately mark them in Aeries!

Students will be informed that tardiness has direct consequences:

  • Students on time to class get Cougar Credit
  • Students with 5+ tardies within 2 days = lunch detention (Weds + Fri)
  • Students with 6-10 tardies in 1 week (2 lunch detentions) = after school detention (Weds, Thurs as needed)

Teacher Expectations:

  • Take accurate attendance within the first 10 minutes of class, and update attendance when students arrive tardy
  • Assign Cougar Credit to students as necessary
  • Greet students warmly at the door and calmly, remind students if they are tardy
  • Teachers design and implement engaging and quality lessons from bell to bell
  • Teachers communicate with families of students who present a pattern of being tardy to their class and document it

Office, Admin & Campus Monitors/Supervisors Expectations:

  • Data will be reviewed Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays
  • Admin will document with referrals, determine who is assigned lunch/after school detention and make parent contact when a consequence is assigned
  • Campus Monitors will be encouraging students to go directly to class whether they have a pass or not. Campus Monitors will immediately report non compliant students to admin for follow up.
Please remember that whenever you excuse a student from class, teachers are required to legibly and completely write a green hall pass. Be sure to collect green hall passes when students return to class, and keep used passes for the remainder of the day. Students will be taught to use the restroom during passing periods to avoid missing class time.

Parking Lot  and Follow Ups from Faculty Meeting:

Can we get a wheel chair out in PE? Notice to staff: wheelchair is now stored in the equipment closet between locker rooms from now on.

What is the district’s policy on informing teachers when a family completes the McKinney Vento Affidavit? There is no district policy that states teachers need to be notified of McKinney Vento status of a particular student. However, it is at the discretion of admin whether this information will benefit the teacher to know more about the student and family. Some families are not ready to disclose their family information yet. As students get to know the teacher she/he may feel confident to share their living situation with her/him.

Notices

  1. We are looking for certificated staff to run English 3D before or after school. This program helps EL’s and is part of our Extended Day opportunities that are taking shape on our After School Program Sheet
  2. You may have parents wondering where the print out for the 2019 CAASPP is and why it wasn’t sent home over the summer…. This year, the CAASPP and ELPAC Student Score Reports (SSRs) will be available electronically through Aeries parent portals.
Attendanceworks.org Attendance Awareness Month Do’s and Don'ts
DO:
Make sure to approach the conversation with concern and optimism rather than telling families what they’re doing wrong. Almost all families want their child to be in school, but many don’t understand the connection between too many absences and poor achievement. Assume that once they know better, they will do better.

DON'T
Don’t assume families know what good attendance is. By and large, families and students don’t know that missing two days a month over the course of a school year puts a student off-track for graduation.
